Emirates celebrates 25 Years of direct flights between Dubai and Entebbe

Emirates has marked a major milestone as it celebrates 25 years of direct operations between Dubai and Entebbe, underscoring its long-term commitment to Uganda’s aviation and tourism sectors.
Since launching its first service to Uganda in 2000, the airline has operated over 15,900 flights and carried more than 2.8 million passengers between the two destinations. Over the years, the Dubai-based carrier has played a pivotal role in connecting Ugandan travelers to the world through its global network of over 140 destinations.
A Journey of Growth
The Entebbe–Dubai route began as a thrice-weekly connection and later evolved into a direct daily service in 2007, following increasing demand from both business and leisure travelers. In 2015, Emirates upgraded the route by introducing the Boeing 777-200LR, and today it operates a three-class Boeing 777-300ER, making it the only airline offering a First Class cabin on flights to and from Entebbe.
Marking the Milestone
To commemorate the 25-year journey, Emirates operated a special anniversary flight featuring its newly refurbished Boeing 777 fitted with Premium Economy cabins. The celebration brought together government officials, tourism stakeholders, and aviation partners, reflecting on the airline’s contribution to Uganda’s connectivity and economic growth.
Speaking during the ceremony, Mohamed Taher, Emirates’ Country Manager for Uganda, said the milestone reflects the airline’s deep and enduring relationship with Uganda.
“Uganda is not just a key market — it’s a valued partner. For 25 years, we’ve connected families, supported trade, and promoted tourism between Uganda and the world. We remain committed to enhancing this relationship in the years ahead.”
Driving Tourism and Trade
Emirates’ operations have significantly boosted tourism and business travel between Uganda and the United Arab Emirates, as well as other global markets. The airline’s partnership with the Uganda Tourism Board has helped showcase the country’s natural beauty, wildlife, and adventure tourism to international audiences.
According to Emirates, passenger numbers on the route have grown steadily, with notable increases in travelers from the United States, the United Kingdom, India, China, and the Middle East.
Looking Ahead
Over the years, Emirates has also contributed to local community initiatives, including education and sports development projects. Its ongoing investments in modern aircraft and service innovation are expected to further enhance Uganda’s connectivity to the world.
As Emirates looks to the future, the airline reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Uganda’s growth as a tourism and trade hub — building on a partnership that has flourished for a quarter of a century.
“We’re proud to celebrate this milestone with the people of Uganda,” Taher added. “Our story here is one of connection, opportunity, and shared progress — and we’re just getting started.”
