Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere travels to Turkey for medical treatment, extends gratitude to President Museveni

The Omusinga of the Rwenzururu Kingdom, Charles Wesley Mumbere, has officially traveled to Turkey to undergo a medical review following a period of ill health. The cultural leader confirmed the development before his departure and expressed appreciation to the Ugandan government for facilitating his travel.
“I haven’t been feeling well, so I am traveling to Turkey for a medical review. I am very grateful to H.E. President Museveni and his government for allowing me to go abroad for this medical review,” Omusinga Mumbere stated.
His trip comes at a time when he has been steadily re-engaging with his subjects and re-establishing the cultural institution after years of restricted movement and legal battles. Since his return to Kasese in 2023, Mumbere has been involved in reconciliation efforts and the revival of Rwenzururu Kingdom structures.
Government clearance for his travel is viewed by observers as a positive gesture highlighting continued dialogue and cooperation between the state and the Rwenzururu leadership. Local leaders and subjects in the Rwenzori sub-region have responded with messages of support and prayers for his successful treatment and safe return.
The Omusinga’s health condition has not been publicly disclosed, but sources close to the kingdom indicate that the medical review in Turkey was recommended to ensure he receives specialized attention.
Cultural stakeholders say his brief absence will not disrupt ongoing engagements within the kingdom, with officials expected to continue administrative duties in his stead. Many of his subjects anticipate that he will return in improved health and resume his leadership roles, including efforts toward peacebuilding, youth empowerment, and cultural preservation in the region.
As he begins his medical journey abroad, the Rwenzururu Kingdom and the wider community remain hopeful for a swift recovery and look forward to welcoming their king back home soon.
